Return to the
Tail of the Dragon
Once again, we are
returning to the
“Tail of the Dragon”. The Smoky Mountains and the “vivid
colors of the turning leaves” are calling us again.
For those who went with us
in 2003 and
2006, it’s time to “do it again” For those who either missed
it or didn’t know about it, please go to www.tailofthedragon.com
to find out all about the ride, US-129, 318 curves in 11 miles with
a 900 ft. elevation differential.
Here’s the plan: It’s a little different so we can “run the dragon” on Monday vs. Friday or Saturday, less traffic. More fun.
We will spend the night in
Chattanooga,
TN, at the Staybridge Suites. www.staybridge.com/chattanoogadt.
Reservation
phone number is: 423-267-0900. Tell the reservation agent you want a
room in the “Corvettes of Louisiana” block. Dinner is at the
Station House Restaurant. If you can’t find your server, look on
stage. He/she is probably the entertainment.
Sunday, Oct 25th
– We’ll
take a colorful drive into Gatlinburg, check in to the Glenstone
Lodge. www.glenstonelodge.com
Reservation phone number is: 800-362-9522. Tell the reservation
agent you want a room in the “Confederation of Corvette Clubs of
Louisiana” block. The rest of the afternoon will be “free”
time. We will spend Sunday and Monday night in Gatlinburg.
On Sunday afternoon, part of the group may want to stop at Harrah’s
casino in Cherokee, NC, south of The Great Smoky Mountains Park.
Others may want to go on into Gatlinburg and get a head start on
shopping.
We have dinner reservations at Smith Family Theater in
Pigeon Forge, TN. Check out the web site
for “what’s for dinner”. Entertainment is provided by the band
“EXILE”. We will have a “corvette” display in the parking lot.
Security will be provided.
Monday, Oct 26th - After a short ride, we will spend the next few hours on the “Tail of the Dragon” There is a snack and gift shop on the south end of the run (Deal’s Gap), www.dealsgap.com. Those who wish to relax between runs will have a place to “chill” and talk about their last run. “Killboy”, www.killboy.com and a couple of other professional photographers are usually on the “Dragon” to take action pictures as we “slide” into the curves.
The afternoon is yours to
enjoy the
Smokey Mountains as you wish.
Tuesday, Oct 27th - Return home.
You should make your reservations at the Staybridge and the Glenstone Lodge as soon as possible.
I’ll
be sending out reservation forms to reserve your place for dinner on
Sunday and Monday night and the event “T” shirts, when I finalize
the graphics.
AS WITH
ALL CONFEDERATION EVENTS,
THIS IS A “Y’ALL COME”. Don’t need to be in a Louisiana
Corvette Club. In fact, I encourage corvetters from everywhere to
come join with us.
Our goal is:
“Have Fun in our Corvette”
Our motto is:
“We Cruize to Eat, and we Eat to Cruise”
Let’s go do it, AGAIN!
